Before I even start this article, allow me to say that I hate the romantic comedy genre. I am not saying that to seem disaffected or because it is trendy, I just think watching silly, idealized relationship scenarios is not the most enjoyable way to spend my time. So if you are reading this list expecting that, you will be let down. That out-of-the-way, that doesn’t necessarily mean I hate movies about two people being in love. I just prefer when they are honest (as in bleak and challenging) as oppose to always being so cutesy and derivative. But that also doesn’t mean I don’t fall for the cutesy and derivative ones on the rare occasion that they are done exceptionally well (500 Days of Summer). From the heart breaking to the hilarious, here are six films that are incredibly honest in their interpretations of a romantic relations. That last sentence rhyming made it feel magical to me. Like love, actually. Hope you see what I did there.
