Top 10 Videos of Animals Doing Really Cute Stuff
The real reason I needed to make this list is because of this movie right here, which I just watched a few days ago.
As I say in the article, the film literally reached its hands into my guts and pulled out little, rotted chunks of my soul.
Ever since then, I have needed something sweet and loving and genuine to put it back, and I found it.
Adorable animals doing overly-adorable things with other adorable animals.
So I sat myself down and made myself watch hours and hours of animal vids, to find the ten that really stood out to me.
Sometimes, all it takes is two species who normally wouldn’t get along, getting along on video, and I can feel my innocence and joy coming back.
Other times, it is when two cute animals roll around on the ground and fake fight, even though you can tell they are just playing. That thaws my soul, too.
And even those videos of animals doing stuff animals normally don’t do, like surfing or skateboarding, those feed my soul as well.
Surf rat is a real pet, and maybe one of the greatest pets who ever lived.
So after hours of adorable vids, and slowly helping to bandage the wounds in my soul from watching that movie yesterday, I am ready to show you my six favorite animal videos. Well, ten really, but kind of six. You will see what I mean in a minute.
Be prepared, this stuff gets amazingly cute at times.
Tickle the Slow Lorus
My favorite part by far is when he looks so shocked and devastated when they stop tickling him.
I know this one is old, and anyone worth their weight in internet gold has seen it a thousand times already, but there is just such DIsney cute in a slow Lorus that I could watch this video for years and most likely never tire of it. This video is one of those moments when you watch it and realize, holy crap, animals DO like awesome stuff like tickling. I love this video so much I actually looked into buying one of these as a pet for a little while.
They are illegal to have as pets here, though.
Sad, I know.
Maru the Cat and Any Box
This cat has a love for boxes I will never understand, and I will never question.
For those who don’t know, Maru is a bit of an internet superstar who has a penchant for getting in boxes of pretty much any size. It is not a cruel trick by the cat’s owner, Maru GENUINELY loves climbing in boxes. For this reason, Maru has a wonderful assortment of videos available on his (her, its?) Youtube channel, which you can click over to right here.
Maru is less like an internet sensation and more like a friend. A furry feline friend who wants nothing to do with me unless I am a cardboard box of some sort.
Otters Holding Hands
Dear every guy ever, post this on the Facebook wall of your girlfriend and tell her it reminded you of her and you WILL get some loving tonight. And made fun of by your friends as well.
I know this is another case of a video that has been viral for awhile, but this video is just so cute it makes me want to puke. This is what I imagine them saying before they go to bed, in their super cute otter voices:
“If we hold hands when we sleep, the bad dreams can’t come in!”
Oh my gosh, isn’t it so cute they say that? Oh wait, they don’t say that.
Truth is, they hold hands out of instinct so they don’t drift apart while they sleep in bodies of water. I know that is not as cute, but that is STILL pretty damned cute. And the best thing about otters?
They form jugbands!
I still think Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas is one of the greatest Christmas specials EVER made. All Hail Henson!
Seriously, there is literally NOTHING not to love about otters. This video just reiterates that.
Dogs Reunited With Soldiers Returning Home
There are a ton of them:
And in almost every single one of those videos, notice the dogs are crying for joy or making some strange ‘I have no way to sum up all my emotions right now, so I am making a sound that is a mix between a cry and a bark and a howl’ sound.
Ok, this one should dispel any myths floating around about how animals run on pure instinct and do not have “feelings” in the ways that humans do. All you have to see in ANY of these videos is the amount of uncontrollable joy and excitement and relief that you can see these dogs experiencing when they see these people for the first time in months, and in some cases, years.
It is funny, sometimes when we need to be reminded of the humanity in this world, we can look to animals to find that.
Dog Dances Merengue
This is that sad moment when you realize a dog is a far better dancer than you or I could ever be.
This is another internet classic, so most of you know it, but come on. How can you not smile at a dog that somehow manages to remember a complex dance number? He is smarter than some human children I know who would screw this dance number up on atleast three different occasions if given the chance. Plus, the dog is a snazzy dresser, and we happen to know actress Kristen Bell is quite enamored with it, so we have to bow to it for that.
The dog has mad swagger, there is no denying that.
John and Ace Reunite With Their Lion Cub
This one makes me weep tiny, adorable, tears of joy.
In the old days, you could buy lions from certain very fine retail stores, along the lines of Macy’s. These two guys bought a lion cub one day and pretty much raised it as if it were a gentle dog. It was playful and sweet and all was going well, but it was getting big, and laws were coming into place to make owning exotic pets illegal (though I did run an underground ferret smuggling ring on the black market in Massachusetts before the heat caught wind of me) and so they decided the best thing do to was release their lion into a preservation in Africa, where it could get the food and exercise that it would best benefit from.
Awhile later they wanted to visit him, and they were told it was not a good idea because he was the head of his pride and was feral again and would not recall the two men at all.
Well guess what? The above video proves that, not only did Christian the Lion not forget them, but it obviously loved and missed them very much.
That is undeniably powerful stuff.
Robin Williams Has a Tickle Fight With KoKo the Gorilla
These two are BOTH hairy animals, so it should almost count as two.
Wow, note how almost human Robin Williams seems in this clip.
All kidding aside, this is as adorable as it gets.
There are a great number of powerful KoKo the Gorilla videos, the one where she loses her pet kitten being particularly powerful, but as soon as I saw this video I thought to myself: Wow, there is a genuine connection between these two. And there honestly seems to be. It shows a sort of interaction we would never quite expect to see between a massive wild animal and a hairy, wild man. I mean, a human.
And there is just something so haunting about the humanity that is apparent in KoKo.
Kinda makes you wonder which one of us is the real animal?
